Info

Upon entering the museum you are immediately drawn into a rich history of Upper Nitra Region that, if able to talk, would make it a very long conversation. You will find many treasures of the past within its permanent exhibition recording the development of nature and life of people in Upper Nitra.

The most precious findings are those of stone tools of prehistoric Neanderthals from the last Ice Age, from later period there is pottery, weaponry and decorations precisely made of bronze, findings from the Iron Age – sickles, horseshoes, keys, evidence proving development of the crafts, farming, traditional clothing, collection of glass paintings, memorabilia from the Turkish War period, silver jewelry, guild memorabilia, bee queen bearing utensils and interesting whistles of tradesmen with linen and many more.

However, there is one very special exhibit – one of the heaviest in the museum – Brown Bear, shot in a self-defense in Suchá Duša near Tužina in 1988. This “teddy bear” had a remarkable body length of 2 meters and a weight of about 400 kilograms – probably none of us would like to have the pleasure of meeting him in the woods…
